WhatsApp pricing is changing. We’re here to help you understand it and avoid spending more than you need to.
Starting October 1, 2026, Meta is updating its pricing for messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform. Meta charges these fees directly and separately from your Kommo subscription.
Let’s break down what’s changing, what’s still free, and how you can keep your WhatsApp costs under control 👇
WhatsApp message types
Before looking at pricing, it helps to understand the different message types you can send, because messages are charged by category.
Meta has the following message types:
- Templates: Utility, Marketing, and Authentication
- Non-template messages: Service messages (free-form) and AI-driven messages (Meta Business Agent)
1. Utility template messages
These are Meta-approved, non-promotional templates about a customer’s transaction, request, or essential update.

2. Marketing template messages
These are Meta-approved messages that inform clients about promotions, latest offers, or discounts that encourage purchases.

📍WhatsApp templates are used to initiate conversations. They must be reviewed and approved by Meta before they can be used. Learn more about WhatsApp templates.
3. Authentication template messages
Authentication templates are Meta-approved WhatsApp messages used to verify a customer’s identity with a one-time passcode (OTP). These codes help customers securely access accounts or verify transactions.

📍Authentication template messages are not available in Kommo yet.
4. Service messages
These are free-form replies sent by your team, bots, or AI agents only within 24 hours after a client initiates a conversation. You cannot start a conversation with a customer with a service message; for that, you have to use template messages.
5. Meta Business Agent messages
Meta Business Agent messages are replies generated by Meta’s own AI agent on behalf of a business. For example, to answer customer questions, recommend products, or help complete a purchase.

Meta’s WhatsApp pricing structure
Meta charges per message, with rates determined by the message category and the recipient’s country. This means that there is no single price for each message.
To understand when charges apply, let’s first look at WhatsApp’s two messaging windows and what each allows you to do.
How WhatsApp messaging windows work
When a customer contacts your business, how they reach you and when you reply can affect both the messages you’re allowed to send and whether those messages are free.
Two messaging windows help explain how these rules work:
1. 24-hour customer service window (CSW):
This window opens whenever a customer starts a conversation with you. You have 24 hours to respond using a service message.
24-hour customer service window.
Since every reply from the client restarts this window, ensure that all responses are given within 24 hours. After 24 hours, you will need to send a template to restart the conversation.
📍The first 1,000 service messages per business phone number sent every month are free. Meta begins to charge from the 1,001st service message sent in a month.
If you have two phone numbers connected to WABA, you can send 1,000 messages from each.
2. 72-hour free entry point window (FEP):
This opens when a customer messages you through an eligible Click-to-WhatsApp ad or Facebook Page WhatsApp button, and you respond within 24 hours. It provides 72 hours of free messaging from the moment you respond.
72-hour free entry point window.
In this free window, you can send both template and service messages, and you will not be charged.
📍To initiate a conversation or reply to a previous conversation outside of these two messaging windows, you have to use an approved WhatsApp template.
What do you pay for with Meta’s new pricing structure?
The update brings new charges to some messages, while keeping certain messaging benefits free. Here’s a breakdown of what’s paid and what stays free from October 1, 2026.
