List Messages let you offer a menu of options to your customers directly in WhatsApp. Instead of sending multiple messages or waiting for open-ended replies, you can provide a clear, clickable list. Customers simply tap to choose an option, making conversations faster and easier to manage.
What is a List Message?
A List Message is a type of WhatsApp message that includes a button. When tapped, it displays a menu of options you’ve set up (up to 10 in total). You can organize these options into sections (for example, “Product categories” or “Support topics”) and add short descriptions for extra clarity.
Note: Since List Messages are considered free-form messages, they can be sent during the 24-hour customer service window and don’t require pre-approval, unlike message templates. To learn more, check out our article on WhatsApp Business pricing rules.
List Messages can be used to:
- Show categories for products or services
- Offer support or FAQ topics
- Share available time slots
- Guide users through a quick decision
How to set up a List Message in Kommo
List Messages are added as steps inside the Salesbot builder. You can place them anywhere in your bot’s flow, as long as the WhatsApp conversation has already started. For best results, start the chat with a simple message or question, then follow up with your list.
Not sure how Salesbot steps work? Take a look at our guide to get a quick overview.
Here’s how to set one up:
-
Go to WhatsApp → Bots.
-
Select Start from scratch.
-
In the bot builder, select the List Message (WhatsApp) step.
You’ll see that the List Message step in the Salesbot builder is divided into two parts: the message section and the list section.
In WhatsApp, this step will appear as a single message with a button.
- Add content to the fields in your message:
- Message title (optional): A short title to introduce the list (24 characters max).
- Message: Explain what the list is for or what action the user should take.
- Footer (optional): Add any extra context, like your business name (24 characters max).
- Button name: The label for the button users tap to view the list (20 characters max; emojis allowed, and markdown — like bold text, typed as *bold text* — is supported, but it only shows that way on the user’s phone).
Here’s how the message fields will look in WhatsApp:
- Add your sections and options:
- Choose how to organize your options.
You can group related choices—like services, departments, or categories—into sections.
- You can add multiple sections to your List Message.
- Each section can include one or more options.
- Section title: Enter a short name for each section (24 characters max).
- Option title: Add the main text users will see (24 characters max).
- Description (optional): Give a brief explanation under the option title (72 characters max)
- Keep these rules in mind:
- You can have up to 10 options total across all sections.
- If you create 10 sections, each one must have exactly one option.
- Users can select only one option per List Message.
This is how your options will be shown in the WhatsApp chat:
Note: Use the Preview bot feature to see how your List Message will appear to users before saving.
-
Click Save to add the List Message to your bot’s flow.
Now, when Salesbot reaches this step, the List Message is sent in the WhatsApp chat. The user can tap to select one option, and their response will be shown in the chat and saved in their lead card.
Remember: Salesbot works either when you’ve set up a trigger or start it manually from the lead card. Triggers tell the bot when to start and when to send the List Message. Not sure how triggers work? Check out our Salesbot triggers article.
